National Health Insurance

1.

Background and Regulation

According to National Health Insurance Act, every foreigner who has stayed in Taiwan over than four months is obligated to underwrite in the NHI system.

2.

Process of Payment

The cost of NHI is included in tuition fee every semester. After students pay the tuition and complete the underwriting procedure at NFU (see guide map below) the Bureau of National Health Insurance will give the payment forms to university to pay the insurance fee on behalf of the students. The cost is NT$ 659/month, that is, payment for the first and second semester is NT $3,954/semester (from September to next February, and from March to next August). The newly arrived students who have not stayed over than 4 months will not be required to underwrite an insurance policy; hence, the insurance payment in the first semester of new-coming international students only includes two months (NT $1,318)
